Hello friends in this blog I am going to tell you about the benefits of reading so without further wait, let`s get on with it. A study done in 2016 by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health found that people who read books for just 30 minutes a day were living an average of two years longer than those who didn’t read at all. Another report found that readers who reported reading more than three hours a week were 23% less likely to die between 2001 and 2012 than those who only read newspapers and magazines.
UNESCO defines someone as literate if they can “understand, read and write a short simple statement on their everyday life.” Lacking literacy skills holds a person back at every stage of their life. As a child, they will be unable to succeed in school. As a young adult, they will be locked out of the job market. When they are parents, they will be unable to support their own children’s learning. Essentially, the importance of reading is immeasurable and applicable in every facet of life. Children should learn to read beginning at a young age because it is essential for brain development. That said, once literacy is achieved, the reading should not stop. Reading is one of those wonderful activities that anyone can take part in, regardless of age, economic status or interests. That’s why, knowing how reading interfaces and affects your day-to-day is so critical. Like any muscle, the brain needs to be exercised to remain healthy and strong. Think of reading as weightlifting for the brain. In fact, frequent brain training decreases mental decline for the elderly by 32%. This can be beneficial in the case of those suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia, whose degradation has been proven to slow after a bout of consistent reading and brain stimulation
.Additionally, readers can experience memory improvement and gain stronger analytical skills. To understand a book, readers are forced to remember complex characters, settings and plot structures, as well as process what is happening. Think of a murder mystery. It is human nature to make predictions about what is going to happen next, and to make those predictions, we use analytical skills. Similarly, when you stimulate your mind by reading, you can improve your focus and concentration.
