It is well known by now that women receive little or no attention in traditional historical writing. One reason for this is that traditional history has tended to focus on areas of human activity in which men were dominant — politics, wars, diplomacy — areas in which women had little or no role. As I begin to reflect on women’s history in India, my mind goes back to my school textbooks. Etched in my memory are the beautiful Mumtaz Mahal who moved Shah Jehan to build the Taj Mahal for her, Noor Jehan who was much abler than her husband, Jehangir, and was the real power behind the throne, or the brave Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi who fought to retain her husband’s kingdom. The only women who found a place in traditional history text books were either women who successfully performed male roles or whom great men loved. There are many influential women in the world from all walks of life be it politics, business, sports, or arts. They all must have achieved this with a lot of hard work and obstacles. Some of these women are

  • Rani Laxmi Bai

She was an Indian queen of the Maratha princely state of Jhansi in North India currently present in Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh, India. She was one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857and became a symbol of resistance to the British Raj for Indian nationalists.

  • Mother Teresa

She founded a new sisterhood, Missionaries of Charity. Mother Teresa and her helpers built homes for orphans, nursing homes for lepers and hospices for the terminally ill in Calcutta. Mother Teresa's organization also engaged in aid work in other parts of the world. She just lived for people.

  • Jija Bai

Famed for her fore-sight, Jijabai was herself an able warrior and administrator. She passed down her quality traits to the growing Shivaji, and instilled within him a sense of duty, courage and fortitude to overcome any hardship arising. She is the first teacher of Shivaji Maharaj.

  • Ahilya Bai

She personally led armies into battle. She appointed Tukoji Rao Holkar as the Chief of her militia. Ahilyabai was a great pioneer and builder of Hindu temples. She built hundreds of temples and Dharmashalas throughout India. She handled the Holkar Kingdom after the death of her husband.

  • Savitribai Phule

She was an Indian social reformer, educationalist, and poet from Maharashtra. She is regarded as the first female teacher of India. Along with her husband, JyotiraoPhule, she played an important and vital role in improving women's rights in India.

Because of these great women, some women were inspired and were roll model in their own feild. Such as Indira Gandhi, Kalpana Chawla, Pratibha Tai Patil, Sania Mirza, and many more.....

So lets respect the women around and happy women's day to all the great women.
