The Olympic Games

ANJALI WARIERAug 12 2021

The Olympic games is finally over and in today’s blog I will just give you a brief on the Olympic games.

Olympic Games is an athletic festival that originated in ancient Greece and was rejuvenated in the late 19th century. The logo of the Olympic games is the five interlocking rings colored blue, yellow, black and green on a white field. These rings shows the five continents. Around 200 nations participate in this event and it happens once in four years.

Different nations host the Olympic games like, last Olympic games was at Rio de Janeiro and this year it was hosted in Tokyo by japan. The international Olympic Committee oversees all maters regarding the Olympic games.

Olympic 2020 was held in Tokyo from 23 July 2021 to 8 August 2021. It was not held last year due to the Covid pandemic. This Olympic games was unique because it did not have any spectators from the public to view it. The games were held with a lot of Covid restriction and strict rules were followed such as no athletes were allowed to go outside the games village.

From our country 127 Indian athletes participated in Tokyo Olympic Games. Some of them won medals and made our country proud.

I am sure you all know the final number of the medals India won. Here is the list :

Mirabai Chanu

Silver Medal in Weight Lifting (Women’s 49kg)

Indian Hockey Team

Bronze Medal in Men’s Hockey tournament

PV Sindhu

Bronze Medal in Women’s Single Badminton

Lovlina Borgohain

Bronze Medal in Women’s Welterweight Boxing

Ravi Kum Dahiya

Silver Medal in Men’s 57 kg Wrestling

Bajrang Punia

Bronze Medal in Men’s Freestyle 65kg Wrestling

Neeraj Chopra

Gold Medal in Men’s Javelin Throw
(First Gold Medalist)

I am sure you must have seen most of the matches where India participated and you must have watched your own favorite matches. My favorite match was the bronze medal deciding match between P V Sidhu and China's He Bingjiao and the Men’s Javelin Throw where we won the gold medal by Neeraj Chopra.

I just hope in the next Olympics at Paris we win more medals.
