The Cricket Collison

Cricket... Cricket is known as not only as a sport but also as a religion in India. But do you all know the theory behind the fours and sixes hit by the batsmen? Let me explain.

The ball thrown by the bowler to the batsman needs to be tackled by him considering various factors so as to optimise the runs being scored. Different factors in an optimum combination need a quick calculation to achieve this and therefore, different power on the ball, different angle of the bat and a different area of the bat to hit the ball is a quintessential consideration to achieve the desired type of shot in the earmarked area of the field. Like in drive, the bat should be flat and at the right angle and place because if the ball comes in the path of the fielders, they will stop it with ease.

In addition to all these, the most important thing is the placement of the ball on the bat. If the batsman hits the ball with the part just below the handle, it will give him less power and he shall also feel uncomfortable when he attempts to hit by that part, thus high chance that the shot will not go as desired. Likewise, if the ball hits the edge of the bat while playing a shot, it may result in the ball flicking away in an unpredictable direction confusing the fielders too. Only luck can save the batsman from getting out!!

Legendary batsmen such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, etc have mastered this art through practice and experience, yet they are prone to make mistakes.

So, now you know the various factors that are ingredients to optimising and maximising your score and leading your team to victory. So, the next time when you play cricket, you know that you need to collectively apply the principles of mathematics, physics and logic in an optimum combination and in a jiffy to achieve the desired shot!!
