HEAD MAALISH
Author : SHRIYANS SACHITH
I had once seen a black and white song sequence by the legendry comedian Johnny Walker of Indian cinema singing, 'Sar jo tera chakharayeh ya dil dooba jaayeh...Maalish tel maalish' which simply put, meant a Maalish will put you at ease from all the worldly worries.
And boy it does.
For all the novices out there, a maalish means a massage. Now the very thought of you flopping over in a chair, in leisure and someone nursing your head with loads of oil and deft fingers tingling every nerve in your cerebral domain is exciting to say the least. And add no travel but the massage given in the cosiness of your home, well.. its a dream come true isn't it?
That's what my mother gives me on any weekend afternoon. All that motherly affection and passion juiced out on my head and mixed with aromatic oil makes me beg for more. I close my eyes and feel every nerve being given a press and as it happens it sends a pulsating tingle down my body. The gentle tapping on my head with heaps of oil shakes me to sleep. The kneading on my back with clenched fist softens every strained muscle. All the worldly pressures of schooling and facing my teachers is gone in a jiffy and I land in a world where I just float away in thin air. As I sit on the floor legs crossed, the oil drips down my face and lingers on just enough to tickle at my senses.
The trance leaves me in state of enchantment where each nerve feels alive. I feel rejuvenated and reborn. Oh! for that head maaalish I would give all.
