 My Best Friend

Author : SAI SUMEDH PANGA

Shreya is my best friend. We have known each other from the time we were in our Jr. KG. We share all our thoughts, likes dislikes and also share food during lunches at school. Maybe we have become such good friends because of our common interests in sports. Coincidence or not we like the same Cricket team in IPL and MS Dhoni is our favourite player. We had also played bench cricket in class during leisure or breaks, this is a game where a keychain is used as a bat and a piece of paper is rolled into a ball. I sometimes feel either she will become a cricket player or a commentator or sport journalist.

She is very fond of Maths and French, in fact she is among the toppers in French subject in school.

We help each other in completing the assignments. Most of the times I seek her help in completing the assignments. She is very patient and teacher like while explaining a subject, homework or assignment. Similarly, whenever she has required help, I have helped her, displaying the old saying “Friend in Need is a Friend indeed”.

Both Shreya and me are fond of computers, coding and making PPTs. We are currently in preparation to participate in HT Codeathon 2021. This is a coding hackathon where teams of 2 participants would compete.

During all these 8 years, since Jr. KG, we have visited diverse play zones and places like KidZania, Essel World, Water World, Nehru Planetarium and other places. We are so close that even during Lockdown we were connected on Zoom, WhatsApp and phone calls. Surprisingly we converse more about studies and chat less about general stuff.

Being from Punjab she celebrates Lohri, Baisakhi, Holi and Diwali with plomb. I make sure to wish her during all the festivals.

The funny thing is, since she is taller than me, she likes to boss around and I don’t mind that because she is never disrespectful and is jovial all the time.

While we are not talking about Chennai Super Kings or MS Dhoni, she keeps humming her favorite song Besabriyan from the film “MS Dhoni” (obviously). We also share our dream destinations – She wants to holiday in Paris while I want to go on a road trip across the length and breadth of India.
