Hello Friends!
Today I am going to present 10 Myths and Misconceptions about space that have been debunked by scientists.
1.) Mercury Is The Closest To The Sun So It Is The Hottest
Distance from the sun actually does not affect the temperature of the planet. Venus, the second planet from the Sun is the hottest planet. Venus has a huge amount of greenhouse gases in its atmosphere so it is hottest.
2.) Black Holes Are Like Vacuums
Black Holes don't suck up everything nearby; instead, they sit pretty dormant. If a star comes very near then they become active.
3.) People Explode In Space
Space is near vacuum so we can't actually explode in space. It is like an extreme version of bends that divers face in the water.
4.) The Sun Is The Only Star That Has Planets
Most Stars in our Milky Way have planets surrounding them. Any planet found outside our solar system is called as an exoplanet.
5.) Sun Is A Ball Of Fire
The sun is actually glowing, not burning. This might seem like an insignificant distinction to the average person, but the heat generated by the sun is actually the result of a nuclear reaction, not a chemical one which is what burning is. While we’re at it.
6.) Sound In Space
Movies rarely get sound right in space. I guess that if you’re spending a fortune on filming an explosion or a dramatic death, you definitely want the audience to hear it. However, space means no atmosphere which means there is nothing for the sound waves to travel through. Again, Kubrick got this one right in 2001. However, this shouldn’t suggest that there is no sound in the universe apart from our planet. If you go someplace else with an atmosphere, then there will be sound, but it will probably be a little weird. On Mars, for example, the sound will be higher in pitch.
