The Leaning Tower Of Pisa

Everybody knows that in the city of Pisa in Italy, there is a beautiful tower that 'leans'. A handful of people know the reason of its leaning. Every year, thousands of of people go there to see this wonder. It is made out of while marble and the walls are four meters thick at its base. It has eight storeys and is fifty five meters tall. There is a stairway of three hundred steps which leads to the top and from there, one can see the magnificent view of the city and sea which is ten kilometers away.
Now the question arises: Why is the tower leaning? Well, the construction of the tower was started in 1174 was was intended to be built as a bell-tower for the cathedral which was nearby. The construction finished in 1350. When the construction started nobody thought it would lean, but it started leaning after the third storey was completed. The foundations of this tower were laid in sand and this may explain why it leans. Since the tower started leaning, the plans of its construction was modified and the tower was completed. During the last one hundred years, the tower has leaned another thirty centimeters.
Last but not the least, even though the tower is leaning, why doesn't it fall? According to science, anything will remain stable till the vertical line drawn from its centre of gravity passes through its base. The centre of gravity is the point where the whole mass of the body is supposed to be concentrated. Till today, the vertical line from the centre of gravity has been falling within the base of this tower. That is why it has not fallen yet. But, according to some engineers the tower will definitely fall one day.
That's it for my blog today. I hope you liked reading it as much as I liked writing it.
Thank You and Have A Nice Day
