Author : Hemakshi Agarwal

Hello Readers! So, in today's blog I am going to tell you about the milkman of India. He is known as the father of white revolution in India. I hope till now you may have got the person I am talking about........... It is Dr. Verghese Kurien. He made dairy farming India's largest self-sustaining industry. Earlier India used to take milk and milk and products from other countries but after opening Amul; company India is now exporting milk and milk products to other countries. Dr. Verghese Kurien was born on 26 November, 1921 in Kerala, in a Christian family. From his childhood only Verghese Kurien was good at studies he graduated in science at the year 1940. Then he did graduation is Madras University. After completing his studies he worked at Tata Steel Limited for few years. Still he continued his studies with earning too. It is also a fact that Dr. Verghese Kurien did not had any interest in dairy farming at the starting but after he received schlorship from the government in diary farming. He first studied at Imperial Institute of Animal Husbandary and dairy college at Bangalore for 9 months. And then after for further studies the government transformed him to the Michigan State University at America , there while he was studying about dairy technology his interest in dairy farming increased. Before the placement of Amul company he went to Australia and New Zealand with help of government in the year 1952 and 1953 to study and learned about milk production. On 23 May, 1949 he was called for a test plan from the government in Gujarat's Kheda district's Anand village. At the starting he was feeling bored there but after some time he met Tribhuvandas Patel in the form of a teacher and he was invited to work with them for few days. At the month of December to March there was milk production in bulk but the need of milk was less and so the farmers were facing big loss so, they need to convert milk to milk powder and keep but at that time only cow milk can be converted to powder. So for resolving this problem Dr. Verghese Kurien called his batchment who had studied with him in America ,H.M Nayak to Anand and insisted him to work with him for few days. Soon Dr. Verghese and H.M Nyank converted bull milk to condensed milk. Now Amul was beating the foreign milk company like Nestle which only had ability to convert cow milk.

So, this was my today's blog. Did you know that Dr. Verghese Kurien the milkman of India he himself did not like milk as he did not like it's taste. BYE!!
