COVID VACCINATION DRIVE
COVID VACCINATION DRIVE
Covid pandemic has struck all of us irrespective of caste,
creed, religion or nation. We have tried
to remain safe by following all norms
and precautions, from double masking to using sanitizer and keeping social distancing.
The best way out however is getting vaccinated and following precautions.
India launched its vaccination drive with two vaccinations in
January- Covishield and Covaxin. The population of India is 1.4 billion so vaccination
against Corona virus was always going to be a massive challenge.
The programme had a smooth enough start. India began giving
vaccinations on 16 January, first to frontline workers and those above the age
of 60. But by May, when the drive was thrown open to everyone above the age of
18, the country was severely low on stocks - even as demand spiked.
The supply shortage has not been the only challenge but also
other issues, from planning to infrastructure to misinformation. On June 7th
Prime
Minister Narendra Modi announced to provide free doses to everybody above the
age of 18 in all states.
As I state here, Sputnik V the vaccine made by Russia has
been approved by the Indian government and our government is also placing
orders for more vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna to meet the demand.
I am sure with proper management of the vaccination drive, we
will meet success to vaccinate one and all.
Let's hope for the best.
Thank you.
